Yield: 4 servings · Prep: 2m · Cook: 12m
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp beef tallow or butter
- Salt to taste
Instructions
Heat a wide skillet over medium-high. Add the cooking fat, then spread the beef in a thin layer. Leave it untouched for 3 to 4 minutes to brown, break it into chunks, salt to taste, and continue cooking until deeply browned and the center reaches 160°F.
Why this recipe works
Ground beef is easy to buy in bulk, portion, and turn into a fast family meal. Hard browning changes the texture enough to keep a very simple ingredient list interesting.
Budget tip
Higher-fat ground beef is often cheaper and needs less added cooking fat.
Make it stretch
Add eggs on the side or use leftover beef in a broth bowl the next day so one batch can cover another meal.
Meal-prep note
Cool leftovers promptly; dry-heat reheating helps restore the browned edges.
